Obituary

With the witness of her loving family, Agnes Cecilia Daly Greiner, age 95, was called to eternal life on August 3, 2012. Her entire life was spent in the southern lakeshore area of West Michigan. Born on September 18, 1916 to William and Mary (Heffron) Daly in Benton Harbor, Agnes was the second oldest of eight children. At age 16 she graduated high school and attended Nazareth College in Kalamazoo. After two years, and with her mother's death, she returned to the Daly family farm. She married John N. Greiner of Hart on August 24, 1946 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joseph, Michigan. During their 21 years of marriage, John and Agnes welcomed 11 children. After John's death in 1967, Agnes took over management of the farm until 1978. Her son, Vincent, is currently the fourth Greiner generation to pursue agriculture as a career. Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, two daughters, Judith Mary and Martha Joan and sisters Rose Smith of Coloma, Alice Davis of Hartford, Mary Theisen of Riverside and brothers Peter Daly of Hart and Edward Daly of Watervliet. Agnes has surviving children Margaret (Leo) Kennedy, Sheila, Virginia (Bruce) Reed, Vincent (Jonda), Karen (Larry)Larder, Delores (Jim) Sahakian, John (Cindy), Peter and Marcia (John) Muczynski. Grand children include Brendan, Evan and Cristina Kennedy; Kayleigh and Jillian Reed; Nicholas and Bryant Greiner; Emily Larder; Caroline (Larder) and Robbie Timmer; Jessie and Judy Sahakian; Garrett and Eliza Greiner; Hannah, Jacob, Bethany, Cecilia and Clare Muczynski. She is survived by sisters Margaret Foulkes of St. Joseph and Helen Herman of Benton Harbor, and sister-in-law Delores Daly of Watervliet. Agnes had an unwavering commitment to her family, faith and farm. Once she settled in the Hart area, St. Joseph Catholic Church (Weare, Michigan) became her second home with daily Mass attendance and many years of active involvement. Her love for the land and church were tied to her heritage. Her husband's grandfather, Nicholas Greiner, provided acreage for the church site and her father, William Daly, provided land for a parish center, both properties being adjacent to the Greiner farm. Agnes also loved gardening, reading, walking, traveling and lifelong learning. She ultimately completed her undergraduate degree in Humanities from Nazareth College in 1976 at the age of 59. Agnes shared many years of laughter and love with her family and friends and each relationship added to the richness of her earthly experience. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to wonderful caregivers Mary, Donna, Martha, Virginia, Shelly, Laura and Bev who showed their love for Agnes in actions and words on a daily basis. The Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Greiner will be offered Thursday, August 9, 2012 at 11:00 AM from St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Phillip Sliwinski presiding. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the King Funeral Home, where the Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 PM. Visitation will also be one hour prior th the Mass at church. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church Building Fund.
