Allan E. Seyfred, 81, of Hart, passed away Saturday, October 9, 2010 at the Oceana County Medical Care Facility after a long illness.
Allan was born on October 27, 1928 in Niles, MI to Albert and Gladys (Marrs) Seyfred. He operated the family farm in Galien, MI, until he joined the Michigan State Police in 1956. He served at the White Pigeon and Ypsilanti Posts and then was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and transferred to the Hart Post, where he served until his retirement in 1988. Throughout his career with the State Police, Allan was noted for his marksmanship and won numerous awards within the law enforcement community.
Allan was a long-time active member of the Hart United Methodist Church. He was very involved in the Hart and Oceana County communities, serving as a member of various boards and commissions, including the Hart Public School Board of Education, Hart City Council, Oceana County Jury Board, Oceana County Intermediate School Board, and the Republican Committee of Oceana County.
Allan was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia A. Genson in 2006. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty (Marsh); children, Sandra (Mark) Densham of Grandville, MI; Mark (Linda) Seyfred of Franklin, TN; Jill Seyfred of Lexington, KY; son-in-law, Dennis Genson (Karen) of Ludington, MI; sister, Janyce (Don) McMullen of Bad Axe, MI; six grandchildren, Sam (Kirsten) Genson, Sarah Genson, Brent Densham, Lianne Densham, Jonathan Seyfred, Anna Seyfred and three great-grandchildren, Grace and Sawyer Genson and Grayson Seyfred.
The family thanks the staff of Oakview and Oceana County Medical Care Facilities who provided loving care to Allan during his illness.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 13, 2010 from 6 pm to 8 pm at King Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at Hart United Methodist Church on Thursday, October 14, at 2 pm officiated by Doctor Ken Tabor with visitation also one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Hart Cemetery in a private cemetery in the spring.
