Alton W. Piegols, 90, of Hart, passed away at home on Friday, November 30, 2012. He was born November 25, 1922 to George and Frieda Piegols of Midland. Alton served in the United States Army in Europe during World War II. He married Martha Ann Hawley on August 16, 1947, in Hart, and graduated with a B.S. from Michigan State in 1948. His employment included working at Dow Corning in Midland, building pole buildings, co-owning a trickle irrigation business, and maintaining the family farm. Downhill skiing in winter and gardening in summer were his favorite pastimes, and he enjoyed square dancing with the Melody Mates.

Alton is survived by his wife of 65 years, Martha Ann; his son Mark Piegols of Lansing and his daughters Nancy (Bob) Shannon of Evart and Joann (Dave) Rennhack of Hart; grandchildren Tim (Lee-Ann) Shannon, Ari Shannon, Richard Rennhack, Zekara (Jeremiah) Palmer, and Santana (Ricky) Thomas; and great-grandchildren Kelly and Christianna Shannon, Théoden and Hezekiah Palmer, and Charlotte, Clarissa, and Rusty (Richard Claude Thomas IV) Thomas. He is also survived by his twin brother Alvin Piegols, brother Fred Piegols, sisters Mildred Pashak, Dorie Nichols, and Mary Ann Koch, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Norman.

A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2012 at King Funeral Home in Hart, with Reverend Glenn Bearss officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home one hour before the service. Following the service, friends and family are invited to a light luncheon at Faith Christian Fellowship, 400 E. Johnson St., Hart.
