Alvin Ward Hudson (September 10, 1950-July 13, 2026)

Alvin Ward Hudson, 75, better known as "Pete," passed away peacefully, quietly, and pain-free on July 13, 2026, after struggling with Chronic Kidney Disease for many years. Throughout his time at Munson, he was surrounded by tremendous love and care from both his family and friends, as well as the dedicated Munson staff.

Born on September 10, 1950, in Traverse City, Michigan, to Ralph L. and Helena E. (Besemer) Hudson, Pete grew up in Kingsley as the sixth of 13 children. After joining the United States Air Force, he was stationed in Colorado, where he met Dorothy O'Dell Hudson. They married on August 7, 1971, and welcomed three children: Brent P. Hudson, Bobbi L. Hudson, and James J. "Jay" Hudson.

Following his service in the Air Force, Pete worked for several companies. They say, "Jack of all trades, master of none," though he truly mastered every position he held. He took immense pride in providing the highest quality and giving his greatest effort, no matter the task—a trait he passed on to all three of his children.

One word that perfectly describes Pete is patriotic. He was proud of his service in the United States Air Force and equally proud of his son Jay's service in the United States Marine Corps. That pride carried through his daily life and was reflected in his passion for visiting our nation's capital, Washington, D.C. One of his greatest joys was having the opportunity to visit Washington, D.C., individually with each of his children.

Spending time outdoors brought Pete great happiness, whether he was fishing, hunting morels, or simply taking in nature and breathing the fresh air. Music was almost always playing, especially classic country. His collection of Louis L'Amour Westerns was one to be envied.

A true friend to many, Pete loved spending time with his family and friends. Loved by all—human and animal alike—he was truly someone special. Kind, caring, selfless, and always willing to lend a helping hand, he never hesitated to put others before himself. No matter the time, place, or need, he was known to drop everything, throw on his Superman cape, and save the day.

His high school friend described him best: "Pete was the kind of person you enjoyed having around at school and in your classroom. He was inquisitive, honest, hard working, and a young man with a true servant's heart." Those words remained true throughout his life. Whether it meant arriving early to help set up an event, staying to work throughout it, or helping clean up when it was over, serving others simply came naturally to him.

Most importantly, Pete had great faith. "His faith in his Lord was deep. Through all the medical challenges he faced, Pete never gave up. He knew Who held him in His hands. I can only imagine the JOY he experienced after closing his eyes for the last time on earth and opening them in Heaven to see his Savior face to face."

Pete is survived by his children, Brent (Debbie Mallet), Bobbi (Robert Veale), and Jay (Holly Wright-Hudson); grandchildren, Alec Waldie, Colby Hudson, Aiden Hudson, and Austin Hudson; as well as several grand-fur babies: Kilo, Jake, Cooper, Henry, Ethyl, Chockey, Charlie, and Millie; and, believe it or not, a GREAT-grand-fur baby, Itachi. Also surviving are his siblings, James (Sandra) Hudson, Edward Hudson, Ellen (Glen) Kirkpatrick, Sandra Taylor, Ronald (Connie) Hudson, Terry (Dona) Hudson, Gary (Tammy) Hudson, Nancy (Alan) Mohler, and Arthur (Rhonda) Hudson, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his former wife, Dorothy Hudson; his parents, Ralph and Helena Hudson; his siblings, Carol Clous, Joyce Strong, and Albert Hudson; brothers-in-law, Gerald "Jerry" Clous, Thomas "Skip" Strong, and Floyd "Roy" Taylor; and sister-in-law, Linda Hudson.

Though we find comfort in knowing he is peaceful and pain-free in Heaven, Pete will be deeply missed here on Earth.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 24, 2026 at 1 PM at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Covell-Traverse City Chapel, 511 S. Garfield Ave., Traverse City, Michigan 49686 with visitation from 11 AM until time for services.

Burial will be held Monday, August 17, 2026, at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Time to be determined.
