Arthur "Art" Paul Isham,78, of Ludington, died Friday, December 28, 2018, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 25, 1940, in Flint, MI, the son of Austin and Violet (Clem) Isham.
Art served in the US Army on the Signal Battalion, followed by 6 years with the National Guard. He was a member of the American Legion Edwin H. Ewing Post #76 in Ludington and a lifetime member of the NRA.
Art worked as a carpenter and sheet metal worker for many years and later as a meat cutter until his retirement. In his spare time, Art was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved being outdoors, hunting for mushrooms and working in his garden. When Art was younger, he excelled in track and field and enjoyed playing softball and bowling. Art also enjoyed traveling, having visited almost every state in the country. He loved taking road trips and going camping with wife and granddaughters, who were the loves of his life. Art also loved animals and always had a soft-spot for taking in stray animals including raccoons, a squirrel, a muskrat and several dogs.
Art attended the United Methodist Church of Ludington and had been a spiritual man all of his life.
On September 16, 1961, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Millington, MI, Art married Nancy Louise Schuler, who survives him. He is also survived by: his son, Ron (Pam Cjmerek) Isham of North Muskegon; his daughter, Yvonne (Dan) Greene of Scottville; 2 granddaughters, Amanda (Josh) Kozicki of Scottville, and Meaghan (Steven) Musch of Kentwood; 1 great-granddaughter due in March 2019; 6 siblings, Lloyd Isham, Laurel Smithson, David (Sharon) Isham, Daniel (Donna) Isham, Rose (Tom) Bogardus and Patricia Gordon; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Art was preceded in death by: his parents; and 5 siblings, Ida, Bill, Marilyn, Lolita and Sharon.
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 AM, Friday, January 4, 2019, at the United Methodist Church of Ludington, with Rev. Dennis Bromley officiating. The family will receive friends Friday from 11:00 AM until time of services at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to an animal rescue or charitable organization of one's choosing in memory of Art.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to those who provided exceptional care in keeping Art comfortable in his final days: attending physicians Dr. Keith Marcus & Dr. Amy Beeman, Anesthesiologist Dr. Matt Giles, the nursing and auxiliary staff of Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital, as well as the caring staff of Hospice of Michigan.
