Awilda Ruthann Whitehill, 67, of Grand Rapids, passed away Friday, July 29, 2022. She was born September 22, 1954, the daughter of Charles and Evelyn (Clark) Whitehill.

Awilda attended Randall School (K – 6) now in Hart Historical District, then attended Hart High ISD (7 - 12). She enjoyed school and continued her education by attending Michigan State University, in Lansing, in the field of Horticulture, her favorite.

In her working career she was employed by Mitchell Bentley in Ludington, Michigan as well as Bentler Automotive in Grand Rapids, Michigan and Good Will Industries in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Awilda also served as an assistant at Grand Rapids ISD and really enjoyed working with her students.

Awilda's past time was bargain shopping and had a heart of gold in giving things to family, friends, and folks less fortunate. When she could Awilda enjoyed attending Elbridge Community Church, East of Hart. Awilda had many friends that she enjoyed throughout her life including:  Beverly Jeffries, formerly of Hart, Bonnie (Amstutz) Salinas formerly of Hart and her across the street friends, Robert "Bob" and Kathy Sailor.

In her later years she suffered from and finally succumbed to an awful disease, sugar diabetes.

Awilda is survived by: her sister, Markeeta (Jon) Cohen; brothers, Frantt Whitehill and Carol Wirtz, Ford Whitehill, Garth (Ann) Whitehill, Ned Whitehill, and Roy Whitehill; nieces, Hanalora Akron and Nickole Whitehill; nephews, Ben (Carissa) Harrington and Ryan (Elana) Whitehill; great-nephews, Aden and Alexi; and many cousins that she enjoyed spending quality time with at the many family reunions at Campbell Lake.

Awilda was preceded in death by: her parents; sister, Rebecca Whitehill; nephew, Nicholas Whitehill, and sister-in-law, Mary Jo Whitehill.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM -6:00 PM, Friday, September 9, 2022, with a dinner to follow from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, King-Hart Chapel, 2370 North 72 ^nd Avenue, Hart, MI 49420.
