Mrs. Babette Louise Shafer, age 91, of Hart, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2012. She was born February 23, 1921, in Hart to Emil and Katherine (Jourdan) Padecky. She married Herbert Shafer on August 21, 1937, in LaPorte, Indiana and they farmed together for many years. Mrs. Shafer loved sewing and quilting and made many quilts for her family. She also enjoyed gardening and canning. The Shafers wintered in Texas. Babette is survived by one son, Gerald (Bernice) Shafer of Hart, six grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and her daughter-in-law, Harriet Shafer of Scottville. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; four sons, Herbert, Randolph, Robert, and David Shafer; granddaughter, Jean Ann Cox; great granddaughters, Heather Cox and Jessica Shafer; great-grandson, Matthew Cox; two sisters, Anna Walsworth and Viola Hart; and a brother, Robert Padecky.
The Funeral Service for Mrs. Shafer will be Wednesday, February 29, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. at King Funeral Home in Hart with Dr. Kenneth Tabor officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Hart Cemetery. The family requests that any memorials be directed to Crystal Valley Care Fund or the Crystal Valley United Methodist Church.
