Benjamin Franklin Moore, 93, of Ludington, died Friday, August 25, 2017, at home. He was born August 17, 1924, in Evart, the son of Dennis and Nellie (Pickett) Moore.
Ben was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the US ARMY, where he earned the Purple Heart Medal for his efforts. He was a member of the Custer VFW Gold Bar Post 5096. Ben was also an active member of Calvary Baptist Church, and the Pentwater Masonic Lodge.
Ben began working for the Dow Booster Plant in Pentwater for several years, then in 1954 he transferred to Dow Chemical Ludington where he retired as a maintenance supervisor, in 1982, after 32 years of employment. In his spare time, Ben loved traveling south during the winter, fishing with his family, working in the garden and hunting, especially the elk hunts in Wyoming.
On September 21, 1946, Ben married Ellen J. Miller, who survives him. He is also survived by: 4 children, Steve Moore of Portland, Peggy (Jack) Moutsatson of Acton, California, Phyllis (Raymond) Hanson of Ludington, and Randy (Dori) Moore of Wheelersburg, Ohio; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Ben was preceded in death by: his sister, Katherina Moore; his brother, Calvin Moore; and his daughter-in-law, Kathleen Moore.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 1, 2017, at Calvary Baptist Church, in Ludington. Interment will be in the Sylvan Cemetery, in Evart, Saturday, September 2, 2017, at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM, Thursday, August 31, 2017, at King Funeral Home and Cremation Services, in Ludington.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Missionary Fund, or to the Salvation Army.
