ANDERSON, MRS. Betty Jo. Whitehall. Betty Jo (Lee) Anderson, age 89, passed away August 21, 2026. She was born July 23, 1937, in Muskegon, Michigan, to Lawrence and Esther (Mattison) Lee.

She graduated from Muskegon Heights High School and went on to work at Muskegon Business College. There, she met Wendell Anderson who became her lifelong husband. Wendell and Betty Jo settled in a cottage on White Lake, which they turned into a larger family home. Betty Jo had two children, Wendell Jr. (Andy) and Sandra.

In addition to being a wonderful mother and homemaker, she worked alongside Wendell in their home office doing accounting and tax work for area clients. Eventually Betty Jo began a new career at Whitehall City Hall serving as an accountant, then Finance Officer, and finally as Assistant City Manager. Betty Jo was much loved and respected as a colleague, a citizen of Whitehall, a loving mother, and a good neighbor. She will always be remembered for her bright smile as well as being a genuinely nice person.

She loved living on White Lake, in her later years, she enjoyed viewing nature, and lake activities from her front window. She also spent time with Wendell at their cabin up north on the Betsie River. This was a source of adventures and memories for her family and good friends.

Betty Jo is survived by: her brother, Terrance Lee; son, Wendell Jr. (Andy); daughter, Sandra; her beloved grandsons, Dylan and Logan Anderson; her precious great-grandson, Lachlan Anderson; and several nieces and nephews.

Betty Jo was preceded in death by: her husband of 57 years, Wendell Anderson; her brother, Lawrence Lee (and Joyce); her sister, Marilyn Lee Kelling; her brother-in-law, Dudley Anderson (and Doris); and her sisters-in-law, Jean Anderson Grady (and Gene) and Judy Lee.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.
