Mrs. Betty Katherine Devereaux, 88, of Pentwater, MI, passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at the Oceana County Medical Care Facility in Hart. She was born March 23, 1926, in Howell, MI to Mabel and Clyde Maas. Betty worked at University of Michigan as a secretary until her mother passed away unexpectedly. She then took care of her father and two brothers and a sister. Betty married Bill Devereaux on August 21, 1948, in Howell. This began her new role as wife and mother to four daughters, to which she devoted her loving care for many years. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Devereaux, her brothers, Clyde Jr. and Chuck, and her sister, Arlene. She is succeeded by a very lucky family who will remember her always for her gentle warmth, her loving and giving nature, her appreciation of laughter, and always a smile, which was the creed by which she lived.
She is survived by her four daughters, Christine (Jim) O'Brien of Virginia, Patricia (Tom) Johnson of Lansing, Jacalyn (David) Woodley of Pentwater, and Ann Marie Devereaux of Grand Rapids; three grandchildren, Jamie (Michael) Hawkins, Jeremy T. (Kassie) O'Brien, and Katey (Eric) Jackson; and eleven great-grandchildren. The entire family would like to extend their most heartfelt thanks to the team at Oceana County Medical Care Facility who cared for Betty with dignity until the very end. Instead of flowers, your contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, West Shore Region, 1740 Village Drive, Suite 336, Muskegon, MI 49442-4282 would be appreciated.
The Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Devereaux will be offered on Friday, September 5, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Vincent Catholic Church in Pentwater with Father Phillip Sliwinski presiding. Interment will be in Pentwater Township Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the King Funeral Home where the Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.
