Betty Jane Sheldon, age 70, of Saugatuck, passed away Friday, December 16, 2016, at Poppen Hospice House in Muskegon.  She was born June 21, 1946, in Grand Rapids to Homer and Hazel (Herkimer) Bennett.  She was employed as a Nursing Assistant. Betty loved animals, especially her feline friend Patches.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Carole VanZante of Pella, Iowa; three grandchildren, Mikayla VanZante, Haley VanZante, Mercedes VanDeVoort; two sisters: Kay B.(Ron) Dwyer and Diane Smith and her friend Anthony Smith, all of Ludington; Carole's friend, Verlan VanDeVoort; Betty's former husband, Ray Smith of Niles, MI. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Following her wishes, there are no services planned. The family requests that any memorials be directed to Second Chance Humane Society, P.O. Box 132, Scottville, MI 49454.
