Obituary

Mrs. Bonnie R. Vaught, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on December 16, 2016.  Bonnie was born on January 30, 1943 in Evanston, IL to Ray and Alice (Grant) Glover.  The family moved to Ludington in January of 1959 to be closer to Ray's Oceana County family roots.  Bonnie later met her husband, Lee S. Vaught, and they were married on May 20, 1961 in Detroit.  During their 55-year marriage, they raised two daughters, Teresa and Cynthia.

Bonnie had a long business career beginning as a bookkeeper for Allard's Appliance, moving into banking where she began as a teller for First Savings and Loan of Saginaw.  At the time of her retirement, in 1992 from Great Lakes Bancorp, she had achieved the title of Assistant Vice President and Branch Manager of the Ludington office.

Bonnie enjoyed volunteering for the local community through her association with the Downton Development Authority (DDA) and was instrumental in the development of the James Street Plaza including the procurement of what came to be known as "Bonnie's Rock".  George Wilson affectionately called her "Bonnie Bricks" as a testament to her tireless efforts to raise funds through the sale of the name bricks still in place at the base of the clock.  She was also actively involved with the Ludington Elks Emblem Club.

In addition to her community service, Bonnie enjoyed a second career as a loving caregiver to several elderly relatives including her beloved mother, Alice L. Glover.  Her greatest joy was being Nonnie to her five grandchildren often traveling cross country with them, to visit them, or bringing them to Ludington for extended vacations.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Lee S. Vaught of Ludington; two daughters, Dr. Teresa (Jim) Cook of Big Rapids, MI, Cynthia (Ret. Col USA George, Jr.) Cone of Athens, GA; two grandchildren, George Cone III of Athens, GA, Daniel Lee Cone of Jacksonville, FL; three step-grandchildren, Sgt. Daniel (Amanda) Cook of Ft. Bragg, NC,  Kerri (Kyle) Rouech of Houston, TX,  Maryrose (Fiancée Jonathon Robison) of Grand Rapids, MI; one sister, Carol Glover of Santa Fe, NM; three sisters in law, Carole (friend Paul VanderBoom) Gilbert of Detroit, MI, Mary Lou (Ken) Johnson of Manchester, TN, Theresa Vaught of Sherman, TX; one brother in law, Douglas Vaught of California; she is also survived by special cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers in law, Steve Quinlan, Richard, Jerry and Donald Vaught, Jim Gilbert; one sister in law, Karen Vaught; her father and mother in law, Ernel and Phyllis Vaught. Bonnie's family would like to express their love and appreciation to the staff of Ludington Woods and to Hospice of Michigan for their comfort and care of Bonnie.

Per her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private graveside memorial service will be held in the spring.  Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Ludington, 5810 Bryant Rd., Ludington, MI 49431 or the Alzheimer's Association of Michigan Great Lakes, 564 S. Main St., Suite 200, Ann Arbor, MI 48104.
