Obituary

Bruce Alan Bowman

Bruce passed away at his home in Traverse City on April 18.  He was born in Muskegon, Michigan on August 5 1963 to Leslie and Shirley Bowman.  He attended grade school in the Fruitport School District and after moving to Traverse City graduated from Traverse City Central High School.  Bruce was preceded in death by his father and his sister Kathleen Bay (nee: Olds) and his grandparents Allyn and Marie Dean and Earl and Nettie Bowman. He is survived by his mother and a niece Kassidy Bay and her son Nathan as well as an uncle Bill Dean and aunt Irene Bowman.

Bruce's work career began while in high school, working with his father in the parking lot sweeping, snow removal and lawn maintenance business.  He has since worked for various building and painting contractors with the most recent Northwest Painting for the past 12 years.  Bruce attended Mayfield Chapel and was their lawn maintenance and snow removal guru. He took great pride in this job.

Bruce loved all kinds of music and attended many TSO concerts with his mother. He played baritone in the high school band. He also attended many other concerts with his group of friends.  He sang with several local bands with the latest being with his cousin-in-law Dave Ogan.

Bruce was also an avid bowler.  He began his bowling career in the J & G Hot Dog youth league.  He continued bowling in the adult leagues and carried a high average in every one he bowled in.  He also loved to bike and roller blade.  He could often be seen on his roller blades with his dog Dolly.

Per his request, Bruce has been cremated. His ashes will be placed in Evergreen Cemetery at Kingsley with his sister.  Except for some that will be placed in the Straits of Mackinac by a friend. Also, at his request.

A memorial service will be at the Summit City Grange Hall on May 17th 11:00 AM with  Pastor Steve Hayes Officiating.  A potluck lunch will follow.  After this we will take his ashes to the cemetery, time to be determined after the service and lunch.

Rest in peace my son.  You will be greatly missed as you helped me so much with everything, but you will always be with me in memory.

Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Covell-Traverse City Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
