Bruce Hamilton Krueger, 93, of Montague, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2026, with his family by his side.

Bruce was born on May 3, 1933, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Walter W. and Marie (Blink) Krueger. After graduating from Creston High School in 1951, he began studying engineering at the University of Michigan before proudly serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1956, stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas.

Following his military service, Bruce attended Wayne State University through the GI Bill, where he met the love of his life, Maria "Mary" Urick. They married in September 1957 and shared nearly 69 wonderful years together. The couple settled in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where Bruce worked as a technical writer for Sandia Corporation and earned a master's degree from the University of New Mexico. Together, they embraced adventure, taking road trips throughout the Southwest in Bruce's beloved Triumph TR4—a car that occasionally attracted the attention of highway patrol. They returned to Michigan in 1965 to be closer to family.

Inspired by a deep commitment to justice, Bruce earned his Juris Doctor from Wayne State University in 1974 and spent the next 25 years as an attorney with Legal Aid of Western Michigan. He found great purpose in advocating for individuals and families who needed a voice, making a lasting difference in the lives of countless people.

Bruce was devoted to his family and filled their lives with adventure. He loved sailing on Lake Michigan, kayaking, long bicycle rides, gardening, and tackling home improvement projects. He was a lifelong reader, an engaged citizen, and proudly served three terms on the Montague School Board. Whether exploring museums, traveling with his family, or tending his garden, Bruce approached life with curiosity, generosity, and quiet determination.

Those who knew Bruce will remember his kindness, intellect, unwavering integrity, and genuine desire to make his community a better place. His greatest legacy lives on in the example he set for his family and all whose lives he touched.

Bruce is survived by his beloved wife, Mary; his daughters, Jennifer (Alan) Berry and Rebecca; and many extended family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Marie, and his brother, Russell.

In keeping with Bruce’s wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. A celebration of his life will be held later this fall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice in Bruce’s honor.
