Mr. Bruce E. Scofield, age 79 of Mears, died Saturday February 13, 2010. He was born in Hart on September 12, 1930 to Clarence and Gladys (Brelsford) Scofield. Mr. Scofield graduated from Hart High School in 1948 and continued his education at Michigan State University and had been a state inspector with the Michigan Department of Transportation until his retirement on September 22, 1984. He then became a surveyor for the Oceana County Road Commission. He served his country with the US Navy from 1951-1955. His interests included fishing, hunting, bird watching, mushroom hunting and loved any activity out doors. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at the Brucefield Retreat. Mr. Scofield is survived by his children, Michael (Patti) Scofield of Hart, Sheryl (Curt) McClellan of Hart, Scott (Manuela) Scofield of Grand Rapids, Jeff (Kim) Scofield of Hart, Matthew (Maria) Scofield of Muskegon, Paula (Scott) Hedlund of Grand Rapids; 18 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brother, Richard (Dorothy) Scofield of Hart; sister, Jeanette Bruce of Grand Rapids; sister in law, Anita Scofield of Silver Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Herbert Scofield, sister, Vivian Dutton, brother in law, Robert Bruce. The Funeral Service for Mr. Scofield will be held Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. from the Tate-King Funeral Home with Pastor Lorraine Boucon officiating. Interment will be in the Mears Cemetery. Full Military Honors will be provided by the Hart VFW Post 1329 and the Hart American Legion Post 234. Visitation Tuesday from 6-8 P.M. and Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the Tate-King Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Crystal Valley Care Fund.
