Carol H. (Kari) Major Kittridge, 83, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2019, at her home in Montague. She was born on December 24, 1935, in Hancock, Michigan, the daughter of William and Mae (Wuornos) Kari. She was the third of eight children.

Carol lived in Hancock and Detroit before moving to Montague in the fourth grade. She graduated from Montague High School in 1953. Later while raising 5 children she attended Muskegon Community College School of Nursing earning her LPN degree. She was a nurse at the Muskegon Regional Center retiring in 1991. She worked as an in-home nurse for several years after retiring.

Carol loved to travel, visiting friends and family around the U.S. and Germany. One of her favorite places to visit was "the camp" in the U.P. near Toivola, Michigan, spending time with her dad and many other family members. Carol enjoyed the beach, biking, flower gardening, and sitting outside her "home in the woods" reading and watching all the wildlife.

Carol was a true Finn possessing the gift of "sisu"; stoic determination, grit, resilience, and hardiness. Above all she was kind, compassionate, comforting and a "talker" but also a great listener. Talking with her over a hot cup of tea is what we will miss most.

Carol is survived by: her son, Randy (Kyme) Major; devoted daughters, Gina Lorenson, Sherri (Chris) Winkler, and Leisha (Dale) Bolden; her beloved grandchildren, Billie Jo (Luke) Peterson, Jared (Rochelle) Lorenson, Leah (Mike) Johnson, Nathan (Bobbie) Major, Phil ( Toni Plummer) Lorenson, Amanda Lorenson, Brittany Major, Jessica Lorenson, and Andy Major; her beautiful great-grandchildren, Emma, Addie, Callie, and Lauren Peterson, Maddy Nunn, Hannah and Hailey Johnson, Dayton Blohm, Nola and Lincoln Lorenson, Rayna Major, and Aubrey and Kaimen Munford; her 3 brothers, Gerry (Karen) Kari, Willard (Sharon) Kari, and Wally (Chun) Kari; many nieces and nephews; the father of her 2 youngest children, Hallard Kittridge, and sister-in-law, Rosa Kari.

In February, 1954, Carol married Jean Major, who preceded her in death in 1958. She is also preceded in death by: her son, Mitchell Major; son-in-law, Steve Lorenson; grandson, Denny Chalmers; sister, Kay Dahlberg; and brothers, Conrad Kari (infant), Kenneth Kari, and Rodney Kari.

Carol will be greatly missed by the ladies' lunch group who were friends for over 65 years, Donna, Karen, Pat, Sis and the late Valerie Roesler.

Mom, your spirit will live within us always!

A family memorial service will take place in the spring.
