Carol Dawn Mines, 86, of Montague passed away Thursday, September 7, 2017. She was born on September 13, 1930 to Donald and Emma Vanderzyl.

Carol graduated from Montague Schools. After graduation she married Daniel Ackerberg and together they raised 2 children and enjoyed 27 years of marriage until his death in 1976. Carol attended Lebanon Lutheran Church. She worked as a banker for most of her working career. Later in life after the death of her first husband she remarried John Mines.

Carol enjoyed traveling with her best friend Joanne Schultz, gardening, cruises, and watching her grandkids and great-grandkids in various sports, who commonly referred to her as "super gram". Carol was a loving, kind, independent woman. She will be deeply missed.

Carol is survived by her children, Janice (Jeffrey) Baker and Randall (Carol) Ackerberg; grandchildren, Nathan (Angela) Baker, Dawn (Tommy) Monette and Emily Ackerberg; great-grandchildren, Charlie and Chase Baker, and Wyatt and Emma Monette; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Daniel Ackerberg; second husband John Mines; her parents; sister, Sally Wilbur; and brothers, Robert and Roger Vanderzyl.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at 12 noon on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at Lebanon Lutheran Church, 1101 S Mears Ave. Whitehall with Pastor Doug Ogden officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the start of the service at the church.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Harbor Hospice Foundation or Lebanon Lutheran Church.
