Carol Lynne Sanborn, 83, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2026.

Carol was a strong, fierce, and independent woman who lived life on her own terms. She was a devoted mother, a woman of faith, and someone who found joy in reading, crafting, animals, antiques, and cars.

Carol and her husband Michael Frederick Sanborn were married for 51 years. Their love story began with a shared love of cars. Mike noticed Carol and her fast car and knew he had to meet her, so he followed her home. Carol said no to his first invitation for a date, but Mike wasn’t easily discouraged and came back with roses. She eventually said yes, and together they built 51 years of memories and a life together.

Their love of cars became part of their family legacy. Their daughter Kim continues to share that passion for cars and speed by keeping her grandfather’s 1983 Mustang, a treasured connection to the family she came from.

Carol was a strong woman of faith and an active, cherished member of Living Word Church. Her church family was an important part of her life, as were the many friendships she made throughout the years. Carol valued her friends deeply and enjoyed the laughter, conversations, and memories they shared. She believed in giving back and helping others in her community, leaving an impact on many of the people whose lives she touched.

To her daughter, Kim, Carol was her role model, her inspiration, and one of the greatest influences in her life. She taught Kim the love of reading, crafting, bears, depression glass, antiques, animals, and making things. Together they spent countless days antique shopping, attending craft shows, and making things like ceramics and glass pumpkins.

Carol’s strength and independence were present right up until the end. She was never afraid to express her opinion or stand her ground. When she disagreed with Kim, there was no mistaking it—a roll of her eyes and that familiar smirk said everything. It was simply Carol being Carol. How those little moments will be deeply missed.

Carol spent her career in healthcare, working for the University of Michigan before retiring from Michigan Heart Cardiology. She was among the early individuals involved in implementing an electronic medical record program. Fittingly, Kim went on to build her own career in healthcare, working in healthcare systems and operations.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Frederick Sanborn.

She is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Sue Lawton (William Alfred Lawton III).

Carol will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be forever loved and always a part of Kim’s heart.

A Celebration of Life for Carol Lynne Sanborn will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Living Word Church, 301 N. Jebavy Drive, Ludington, Michigan, with Pastor Brian Ford officiating.
