IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carolyn Ruth
Gauthier
August 3, 1925 – April 5, 2022
Carolyn Ruth Gauthier, a marvelous woman who was a friend to all, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2022, in her home at Samaritas Senior Living in Williamsburg, MI. A positive role model for many, Carolyn was an encourager, listener, counselor and comforter, as well as a source of inspiration. She was recognized by all ages as a resilient lady who was led by her faith. When anyone was anxious about the future, Carolyn typically suggested prayer and making an intentional choice to be happy and see the possibilities rather than the limitations. Her smile and laugh, plus her positive attitude and kind, caring manner will always be remembered.
Carolyn was born August 3, 1925, in Chicago, IL to Louis Jaeger and Catherine Chandler. She married William (Bill) Gauthier October 9, 1948. Together they raised their two children, David and Jean. Over the years the family enjoyed the companionship and antics of several West Highland terriers. Bill and Carolyn were well traveled and journeyed throughout the world after his retirement.
She was actively engaged in the communities where they lived. One of her favorite endeavors was helping with the drug prevention program in the Sylvania, OH schools. The year after Bill retired in 1987, they moved to their home on Elk Lake and she quickly became involved in the First Presbyterian Church. In addition to serving as a Ruling Elder for 17 years, she also acted as membership secretary and chair of the Worship Ministry Team. In 2011 she was recognized as a "Faithful Servant" for her devoted faith and contributions to doing God's work. In like manner, Carolyn was deeply committed to the purposes of P.E.O., a philanthropic education organization, and was a regular volunteer at Munson Hospital in Traverse City.
Among her interests were reading, playing bridge, and playing Rummikub with her Samaritas friends as well as "her girls" who will miss those special times and pizza parties.
Preceding Carolyn in death were her husband William Davis; son David; daughter Jean; brother Carl Jaeger; and sister Catherine Jaeger. She is survived by her son-in-law Tom Osterloh, and grandson Andrew Osterloh both of California, and grandson Nicholas (Kyla Breshauer) Osterloh of New York; extended family members Pat and John Eastin of Nebraska, Richard Curtis of Indiana, Peggy (Gib) Bishop of Maryland and Marcia (Stewert) Dodson of West Virginia.
Carolyn was very grateful for the loving care and support she received from the staff at Samaritas during her ten years of residency there. More recently, she also expressed sincere appreciation for her caregivers from Care Team Hospice.
A celebration of Carolyn's life will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 19, at the First Presbyterian of Elk Rapids, with Pastor Sandra Murray and Pastor Jim Porter officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Carolyn's memory may be directed to Child and Family Services of NW MI, 3785 Veteran's Dr., Traverse City, MI 49684.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service.
