Obituary

Mrs. Carolyn Marie (Gieser) Lundgren, age 85, of Pentwater, passed away March 19, 2012. She was born in Cedar City, Utah, on September 14, 1926, to Rev. Elmer P. and Caroline (Schulz) Gieser and was raised in Ishpeming, Michigan. She graduated from the College of Wooster in 1948; University of Michigan Graduate School of Library Science, 1948-49; and received her degree in dental hygiene from Kellogg Community College in 1974. She was a member of Phi Delta Theta and Phi Beta Kappa societies at the College of Wooster. Carolyn was a library assistant at Lehigh University and a librarian at Northfield (Ohio) Elementary School. She was an administrative assistant at Northfield Presbyterian Church. From 1974-1991, she worked as a Registered Dental Hygienist in private practices in Michigan, as well as a part-time instructor of dental hygiene at Kellogg Community College. Helping to create and organize two church libraries and serving on library committees in several churches was a special joy for her. She was a volunteer at the Niles (Michigan) District Library, as well as on the Friends of the Library Committees in Niles and Pentwater. She was a member of the American Bell Association, maintaining her own beautiful collection of bells. She also enjoyed historical postcard collecting, especially of Ishpeming, reading, bird watching, antiquing, gardening, and knitting. Her husband, Albert Lundgren, preceded her in death in October 2008. Moving to Pentwater in 2005 gave her much happiness – closer to her children, involvement in many activities and groups, meeting new friends, and rejoicing in the beauty of the area. She was content and so well-cared for by the staff at Oceana Seniors, where she spent her final year.

Carolyn is survived by her three children and one grandson, whom she loved dearly, and they, her: Cynthia Callog Mikulyuk, Charles Gregory Allen, Corey Richard Allen, and Conner Richard Allen. Her son-in law, George Mikulyuk; brother, Dr. Paul Gieser; brother-in-law, Dr. George Ziegelmueller; several nephews and nieces and their children; and three step-children are part of the family she loved.
A family memorial service will be held in Battle Creek, Michigan, where she will be buried at Memorial Park Cemetery. Those who wish to make a memorial contribution are asked to consider Oceana Seniors, 6699 N. Oceana Dr. Hart, MI 49420; Pentwater Township Library, 402 Park Street, Pentwater, MI 49449; or Sable Dunes Audubon Society, 612 Chester St. Pentwater, MI 49449.
