IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carolyn Jane
Smentkowski
September 10, 1942 – October 4, 2024
Carolyn Jane Smentkowski, affectionately known as Connie, passed away October 4, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion. Born on September 10, 1942 in Muskegon, Michigan, she was the cherished twin daughter (Marilyn & Carolyn) of Ralph Max Videtich and Olga Ann Marchuk.
Connie graduated from Muskegon Catholic Central School, where she laid the foundation for a life dedicated to service and family. She worked as a secretary for Teledyne Continental Motors and was a master of shorthand and typed well above a hundred words a minute. While in Macomb, Illinois, she transitioned to a career as a realtor. Following the birth of her daughter, Amy, she lovingly babysat young children for 15 years, nurturing and guiding them. Additionally, Connie was a well-loved Catechism teacher in Jefferson City, as well as in Muskegon and Manistee, Michigan.
In her most profound role, Connie was a devoted caretaker for her handicapped daughter for 41 years, demonstrating unwavering love and support. She was an active member of St. Joseph Church, where her faith and community spirit shone brightly.
Connie is survived by her beloved husband, Doug Smentkowski (married December 1, 1978); her daughter, Amy Smentkowski; her stepson Andrew Smentkowski (Ann Manko); her brother, Jim Videtich (DeDe); her granddaughter, Lily Smentkowski; and numerous cousins.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Jack Videtich, Marilyn Anderson, and Diane Roest.
