Obituary

Casimira, or Carrie as she was known to her friends, died peacefully in her sleep at the Oceana County Medical Care Facility in Hart, Michigan at approximately 2:30 AM on June 9th at the age of 92. She had been a resident there for 14 years. She spoke kindly of the staff and how well they treated her.

Casimira was a member of the quickly fading "Greatest Generation" as Tom Brokaw termed those who grew up during the Great Depression and lived through World War II. She exhibited in life so many of the characteristics that he praised and we now see, unfortunately, becoming scarcer. She had an unflagging optimism, no matter what challenges life threw at her. She had grit, determination, and an unassailable belief that education, hard work and integrity would see you through.

Her husband, Roman, served in both WWII and in the Korean War as an Army dentist. She gave birth to eight children, kept the home in order, meals on the table, bedsheets ironed and the children in line with a loving hand, while he served his country.

Before it became widely accepted, she was a self-made businesswoman. She owned Anderson's Luggage and Casimira's Full-Figured Fashions in Ludington, Mi. She enjoyed the business immensely and always had a discerning eye for the right fashion trends. Her practical sensibilities, learned through the Depression years and further forged through the travails and travels of being an Army wife served her well in business.

She is preceded in her death by her husband of 49 years, Roman, her daughters Antoinette and Mary, her son Gregory, her brother Zigmund, sister Helen, two daughters-in-law, Marla and Theresa and one great-granddaughter, Madelyn. Surviving are her brother John, her daughters Christi and Cassie and her sons, Steven, David and Roman as well as 11 grandchildren.

Although she always had a kind word for everyone, her legacy was and will continue to be her actions rather than her words. Her deep faith, boundless love, unfailing wit, beautiful voice/face and smile will be missed by all who have had the privilege to have known her.

The Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Walley will be offered at 11:00 AM Monday, June 29, 2015 at St. Simon Catholic Church, with Fr. Wayne B. Wheeler presiding. Friends may meet the family Monday one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Lunch will be served immediately afterward in the St. Simon Parish Family Center adjacent to the church. She will be laid to rest the following day, beside the love of her life, her husband Roman, at Ft. Custer National Cemetery.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to either The Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 75817, Topeka, KS 66675 or Oceana County Medical Care Facility at 701 E Main Street, Hart, MI 49420.
