Catherine (Katie) Edith Tomczak died Wednesday morning, November 14, 2018 at her daughter Nancy's home, surrounding by her beloved family. Catherine was born in Ludington, MI, July 5,1919, to George Rorup Petersen and Thora Eleftine Koford. She lived her entire life in Ludington. Catherine married Edward Joseph Tomczak on October 1 st , 1938.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Madelyn Mansfield and Elna Secord, and her brother George Petersen.
She is survived by her three children: Patricia (John) Dean, Nancy (Michael) Chojnacki, and Thomas (Frances) Tomczak. Catherine is also survived by 13 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and one special great great granddaughter who all adored "Grandma Katie".
Catherine was a very active mother and grandmother. She started her work career at the Star Watch Case and then went on to work at the Fourth Ward Market. Catherine worked there until it closed. She was a vital part of her grandchildren and great grandchildren's lives. This past July 4th Grandma Katie was the Grand Marshall of the Ludington Freedom Festival parade, just one day before her 99 th birthday. She treasured this day which was the highlight of her year. She was surrounded by family and friends who traveled from near and far to celebrate with her on this special day. She loved spending time with all her grandchildren, who gave her great joy. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Please join the family to celebrate Catherine's life with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 24, 2018, at St. Simon Catholic Church, with Father Wayne B. Wheeler presiding. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of Mass.
