Idema
September 22, 1925 – February 28, 2018
Mrs. Celene Eleanor Idema, 92, of Mears, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2018, at Spectrum Health-Ludington Hospital. She was born September 22, 1925, in Grand Rapids to Franklin and Mary (Barton) Idema. She was a graduate of Grand Rapids Public Schools. Celene obtained her master's degree in Library Science and was a librarian for the Grand Rapids Public Library for 24 years. She attended college at Grand Rapids Community College, Mary Washington College of Fredericksburg, VA and the University of Michigan. She also was a high school teacher in New Market, VA. She also was employed by Carson Perry Scott and the American Medical Association in Chicago. Locally, she worked in the libraries of Hart and Pentwater. Also, she worked for Bray Hardware and Mull Hardware. Celene married Arthur Susan in Pentwater on September 11, 1994.
Mrs. Idema was an avid fisherwoman and had built a rowboat for the cottage using solid oak. She enjoyed golfing, sewing and was an accomplished artisan in many mediums. Celene enjoyed genealogy and was a member of the Pentwater Historical Society and the Oceana Historical and Genealogy Society. She was very active in her church, St. James Episcopal Church and also the Pentwater VFW Post 6017.
Celene is survived by her husband: Arthur Susan of Mears; she also has two grandchildren, John Faye of Grand Rapids and Mary "Bartie" (Scott) Green of Sparta, MI; two nephews and one niece also survive her. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Constance (Jim) Faye.
Memorial Services for Mrs. Idema will be held Wednesday, March 7, 2018, at 11:00 am at St. James Episcopal Church, 82 S. Wythe, Pentwater with Father Sam Morrison officiating. Interment will be in the Mears Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday one hour prior to the service at St. James Episcopal Church.
