Grattafiori
February 8, 1935 – December 28, 2021
Charles "Chuck" Harris Grattafiori, 86 of Montague, Michigan, passed away peacefully at his home on December 28, 2021. He was born February 8, 1935, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, to Cecil and Josephine (Brunini) Grattafiori. He moved to Detroit in 1953.
Chuck was a veteran and was honorably discharged from the Army in 1959. He married the love of his life, Assunta "Sue" Chiesa on May 28, 1960. He proudly served as a Dearborn Heights, MI, Firefighter/EMT for 27 years until he retired in 1985. While on the department, he was active in Goodfellows, March of Dimes, Muscular Dystrophy, and the Burn Center. Later while living in Howell, MI, he served with the Howell Volunteer Fire Department for 3 years.
He was a Sir Knight, 4th Degree with the Our Lady of White Lake Knights of Columbus.
Family and his faith in God were the most important things in his life. He cherished his family and loved spending time with them. When surrounded by his family, he would smile and proudly say, "look what we created." When not spending time with friends and family, Chuck loved to retreat to his wood shop where he would use his amazing talent and create one-of-a-kind wood pieces. Chuck along with Sue, belonged to the White Lake Whittlers, where they enjoyed wood carving and made life-long friends.
Chuck is survived by: his loving wife of 61 years, Sue Grattafiori; daughter, Catherine (Patrick) Collins; son, Mark (Shelly) Grattafiori; daughter, Lisa (Matt H.) Myers; and daughter-in-law, Jan Grattafiori; six grandchildren, Natalie Underhill, Brian Underhill, Ross Grattafiori, Lance Grattafiori, Charles (Lacey) Grattafiori, and Jacob Myers; 3 great-granddaughters, Olivia Garlic, Josephine Ireman, and Emma Grattafiori; sister, Gloria Misiak; brother, Cecil (Dorothy) Grattafiori; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends. He will be missed by his family and all who knew him, as he was truly a wonderful man.
He was preceded in death by: his parents; and his son, Douglas Grattafiori.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 7, 2022, at St. James Catholic Church, 5149 Dowling Street, Montague MI, 49437. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will be held following the service. Interment will be at a later date in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Montague.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Harbor Hospice Foundation, 1050 W. Western Avenue, Suite 400, Muskegon, MI, 49441.
