Charlotte Mabel
Spencer
March 15, 1947 – June 1, 2025
Charlotte Mabel (Hegerty) Spencer, 78, of Ludington, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, June 1, 2025. She was born March 15, 1947, in Elmhurst, Illinois, the daughter of Edward and Mildred (Nelson) Hegerty.
Charlotte served as a soldier in the Salvation Army Corps since 1982 for 42 years, as a Sunday School teacher, H.L. Secretary, and a youth leader at church and at camp. She led many Bible studies and taught several years at the Salvation Army Youth Camp. Charlotte also drove the church bus to pick kids up and for other programs. She was a member of the Salvation Army Women's Group and Church Women United. Charlotte was also a member of the Red Hat Society and an active member of the West Michigan Emmaus Community.
In her spare time, Charlotte enjoyed doing ceramics, knitting and coloring. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
Charlotte will be greatly missed by: her granddaughter, Jennifer (Arturo) Mendez; her grandson, Dustin Shell; her three great-grandchildren, Jasseri Lehan, Ethan and Destiney; and her son-in-law, Robert LaDere. She is also survived by: her brothers, Wayne (Sue) Hegerty and Robert (Deb) Hegerty; her sisters-in-law, Ida Hegerty and Shari Hegerty; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Tippy.
Charlotte was preceded in death by: her parents; her daughter, Barbara Jean LaDere in 2021; her brothers, Carl Hegerty and Mike Hegerty; and several aunts and uncles.
A celebration of Charlotte's life will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the Salvation Army Church, 1101 S. Madison Street, Ludington, with Pastor Tammy Miller officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 AM until time of services.
