Obituary

Christine "Chris" Ann Sikkenga, 83, passed away peacefully February 22, 2025. She was born April 1, 1941, in Shelby, the daughter of Arnold and Mavis (Schuyler) Postema.

Christine was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother & Great Grandmother. She married Gordon Sikkenga on August 26, 1960, and they had 5 children together.

Christine began her career as a Nursing Assistant before transitioning to her true passion: being a full-time homemaker and mother. She  dedicated herself fully to her children, tending to their needs and praying for them once those needs were met. Her love for her family knew no bounds —the bigger it grew, the happier she was. She loved hosting family gatherings, birthdays, holidays, and any occasion that brought her l loved ones together. The arrival of her grandkids brought her immense joy and filled her heart even more.

Christine found joy in the simple things in life. One of her greatest pleasures was tending to her flower gardens, nurturing them to remain vibrant and beautiful. She had a deep love for music and could often be found playing the piano. Quilting, sewing, and crocheting were other creative
outlets that kept her busy. Christine knitted hats, sweaters, and blankets for the local neonatal hospital, understanding the precious value of  innocent life. She also volunteered at local schools through Kids Hope USA, always eager to make a difference. Her cookie jar was never empty,
filled with homemade treats she lovingly shared with those she cared about, delivering them as sweet blessings.

Christine had a passion for books, particularly the Bible, and was an active participant in various Bible studies. She loved meeting new people and forming connections, particularly with her church family at Ferry Memorial Church in Montague. Her arms were always open, offering a
warm welcome and a cup of coffee to anyone who crossed her path. A mentor to many in Biblical truth, Christine lived each day with the goal of pleasing her Heavenly Father.

Christine is survived by: her loving Husband, of 64 years, Gordon Sikkenga; children, Kim (Ron) Mast, Machelle (Jim) Somerville, Andy Sikkenga, Arnie (Susan) Sikkenga and April (Ken) Henderson- Ark; grandchildren, Eric (Sarah) Mast, Nathan (Jessica) Mast, Phillip (Serena) Mast, Jimmy (Deanna) Somerville, Andrea (Jericho) Andrew, Ryen Sikkenga, Ava Sikkenga, Casey (Priscilla) Henderson, Allysa (Tyler) Scott, Levi Henderson, Ashlyn (Cordell) Frahm, Zachariah Henderson and Jonah Henderson; great-grandchildren, Jordyn Mast, Dexter and Cora Andrew, Will Rhodea and Annabelle Adams.

In lieu of flowers Christine's family asks for you to give of yourself to others around you, to help them, show love to them, share the love of Jesus with them and pray for them.

Matthew 5 v 14-16
"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl, instead they put it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and
glorify your Father in heaven"

A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 PM, Sunday, March 16, 2025, at the Ferry Memorial Reformed Church, 8637 Old Channel Trail, Montague, MI. 49437. A receiving of friends will be held one hour prior to the Celebration at the church, with a time for food and fellowship held
