Obituary

Chris Crancer , also known as "Stein" and "Chili Benson" , died at the age of 67 on Thursday, March 7, 2019. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky to Ester Lois (Bing) Crancer and Ray A. Crancer who along with his brother Steven B. Crancer and feline friend, Carl, preceded him in death.

Chris touched many lives through his musical talents, dark humor, and quick wit. He was considered "weird in the best way". He played in many bands locally; most notably Dead Body, Pop Clutch and the Four Speeds, The Nightcrawlers , and Carl Benson's Wildcats. He was a walking encyclopedia of pop culture and was champion of the Great Death Society for 14 years. H is musical listening varied but he particularly enjoyed Rockabilly, Carl Perkins, MC5, The Beatles , Elvis and NRBQ . His creation of "Jungle Land" located at his Obell Street residence was enjoyed by friends and acquaintances who strolled about this unique and quirky backyard tribute to Elvis .

Chris is survive d by: his wife Paula ; sons, Ian (Denise) and Jack (Jennifer); g rands ons, Christopher and Nicholas; sister, Connie Crancer; cats, Flea Biscuit and Louie Louie; and sister, Bonnie Hart.  In addition to his family, he left behind many friends and fellow musicians who will miss him dearly.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
