Clifton W. Helms, 88, of Whitehall, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021.  He was born May 29, 1933, in Sand Lake, Michigan, the son of Clinton and Zona (Williams) Helms.

Clif married Janet Wheat on August 24, 1957, and has shared a loving marriage for 64 years.  He graduated from Michigan State University with BA, MA, and EdS degrees and started his career in education as teacher, coach, and principal at Berlin High School.  He continued as Superintendent of Schools at Webberville and later at Shelby Public Schools.

Clif enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, and especially playing golf at Lincoln Golf Club where he was a member for over 25 years.  He also was a member of Lakeshore Civil War Round Table and White Lake United Methodist Church.  He enjoyed studying, speaking, and portraying Gen. George A. Custer and Mark Twain.  He lived his life full. Every day full of plans.

Clif is survived by: his wife, Janet; his son, Cameron (Helayne) Helms; and grandchildren, Kendra and Chance Helms.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; his son, Craig; and his brother, Jerald.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, November 5, 2021, with Rev. Michael Riegler officiating, at White Lake United Methodist Church, 8555 Cook St. in Montague.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until time of services at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Harbor Hospice or White Lake United Methodist Church.
