Obituary

Courtland Whitney Manns, 70, of Whitehall, passed away, February 28, 2022. He was born November 9, 1951, in Carlsbad, New Mexico, the son of Paul and Nora (Knight) St. Onge.

Courtland "Court" received a B.S. degree from Iowa State University and was a member of Beta Theta Pi. He was a Certified Public Accountant which led him to a successful career in finance. In part, he worked for an offshore drilling firm, Santa Fe International, that allowed him to travel the world. Court most recently was a Financial Controller for Yanfeng Automotive in Holland, Michigan, when he retired in 2018.

Courtland was a diehard Chicago sports fan and a sports fan in general. Throughout high school, he was involved in cross country, swimming, hockey, football, and softball. He was goalie for intramural hockey in college, and in his early adult life he enjoyed long distance cycling. Court instilled his love of sports with his children; coaching their teams and spending extra time practicing, whether it was needed or not. He had a remarkable memory and could tell you play-by-play of his son's baseball games that took place years prior. He always made himself available to help with whatever they needed and was proud to say he taught all of his children how to ride a bike and throw a ball. He was thrilled that his daughter attended his alma mater, ISU, so he could visit Ames and show her his old stomping grounds that he enjoyed when he was a student.

In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, sudoku, jigsaw puzzles, chess, solitaire, and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune with his family. Court was very witty with a great sense of humor, loved math, music, dancing, and was extremely proud of his family. He was loved and will be greatly missed.

Courtland is survived by: his loving wife of 31 years, Carol; children, Collin (Kate) Manns, Cheston Manns, and Catherine Manns; brother, Jon (Carma) Manns; brother in-law, Jim (Lyn) Mullen; nieces and nephews, Paul, Whitney, Jeff, Kimberly, Tracy, Christopher, Alicia, Mark, and Megan; and pets, Koa, Akela, and Hanai.

Courtland was preceded in death by: his parents; sister, Cynthia Mullen; and pets, Pele and Kai.

In accordance with Courtland's wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held in the summer.
