IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Daniel Lynn
Amstutz
September 26, 1941 – August 21, 2017
Daniel Lynn Amstutz, 75, passed away peacefully at home in his sleep Monday, August 21st, 2017. Daniel was born to Ruth and Elmer Amstutz on September 26th, 1941, in Lucas County, Ohio. He was the second of three children.
From a young age, Daniel enjoyed being outdoors; he fondly remembered his time as a Boy Scout. Unfortunately, his active lifestyle was hindered in high school when he contracted polio. He graduated high school and went on to get degrees in English and Greek at Capital University, in Columbus, Ohio.
He enjoyed working as a copywriter and an English teacher before he went on to pursue a career in photography. Upon establishing his business in Montague, he became a resident of the city where he would remain for the rest of his life. Camelot Photography was a staple of Ferry Street for over thirty years and his developing lab now belongs to the Montague Museum. His love of the arts also extended to poetry and music, serenading many with his beloved ukulele.
He married twice, first to the current Jean Swartz, and then to the former Margaret Byl, with whom he had three children.
Daniel is survived by his brother, Gary Amstutz of California; and his children, Amelia (Kemal) Isitan, Cynthia Amstutz, and Ryan Amstutz.
Daniel was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Raymond Amstutz.
He was a member and a lector at St. James Catholic Church of Montague.
A memorial for Daniel is to be held at on Friday, August 25, 2017 at Beacon Cremation and Funeral Services 413 S. Mears Ave. Whitehall, MI, with visitation starting at 3:00 pm and the ceremony commencing at 4:00 pm.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either Harbor Hospice or the Pancreatic Cancer Center of the University of Michigan.
Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
