Daphne Smith, a missionary for Jesus, and loving wife, mother, and grandmother died unexpectedly on January 16, 2022, at the age of 64, at Butterworth Spectrum Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Daphne is survived by: her husband of 43 years, David; their five children, David (Holly), Christopher, Daniel (Elyse), Julianna, and Patricia.

Daphne was born in Ranchi, Bihar, India, grew up at Dr. Graham's Homes in Kalimpong, West Bengal, and served Christ with Wyckliffe Bible Translators in Kathmandu, Nepal. She attended Reformed Bible College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she met her husband.  Daphne worked at Clark Nursing Home, Blodgett Hospital, and ran her own daycare until leaving for the mission field in 1990 with David. Together, they served God as church planters with Pioneers in Nepal and India for thirty years. They worked among the Sherpas in Nepal and The Garhwalis in North India. Daphne was especially effective among the women and children, the meek and lowly.  She taught them how to do crafts, knit, and bake, and made everyone feel at home in her house. She will be deeply missed by family and friends and those whose lives she touched around the world.

Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, January 22, 2022, at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 900 S Warner St., Whitehall, Michigan, 49461.
