Mr. David Charles Benham, Sr., age 76, of Hart, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at Poppen Hospice House in Fruitport. He was born July 8, 1939, in Muskegon to Charles and Lenora (Kies) Benham. David married the former Mary Alice Ferrier in Muskegon on December 2, 2000 and she preceded him in death on March 3, 2011.
David enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was very a devout Christian man of faith and was a member of Ferry Wesleyan Church. He was a Sunday School Teacher and bus driver for the church. David was employed an inspector for Clark Floor Machine in Muskegon. He was also a bus driver, mechanic and custodian for the Hart Public Schools and former caretaker of the Elbridge Township Cemetery. David and his wife Mary Alice were the former custodians at the Oceana County Council on Aging. He also farmed and had been employed at Howmet.
David is survived by one daughter: Cindy (Kevin) Persons of Battle Creek, MI and five sons: Rick (Rita) Benham of Twin Lake, MI, Donald "Brook" Benham of KS, David Benham, Jr. of Cumming, GA, Richard Benham of Gainesville, FL and Daniel Benham of Muskegon, MI; 16 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one brother: Pat (Karen) Benham of Muskegon, MI; He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Shelley Benham, wife, Mary Alice Benham, brother, Mike Benham.
The Memorial Service for Mr. Benham will be Saturday, July 9, 2016, at 11:00 am at Hart Wesleyan Church with Pastor Jeff Hubbard officiating. Interment will be in the Elbridge Township Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at King Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
