IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David Alan
Lehto
December 7, 1956 – April 3, 2025
David Alan Lehto of Grawn, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on April 3, 2025. He was 68 years old. Born in Hancock, Michigan to Lillian and Paul N. Lehto, he grew up in Birmingham, and graduated from Seaholm High School in 1975. Dave moved from southeast Michigan in the late 90's and spent the rest of his life in the Grawn area, eventually settling on a wooded 5-acre parcel where he built his home.
Dave built furniture, often from lumber he harvested himself, and sold it through stores across northern Michigan. He also painted, and wrote short stories, some of which were published in the UP Reader.
Starting in the 1980s, Dave took up running and completed many marathons. He also had a fondness for dachshunds, who would often be seen shadowing Dave in his daily life. He loved the outdoors, especially time spent in the woods of Michigan and fishing.
Those who knew him speak of how willing he was to help anyone in need and countless people have stories of Dave offering to help without being asked.
He is survived by his father, Paul, and five brothers: Ken, Bruce (Barb), Rick (Julie), Tim and Steve, along with his ex-wife Lorraine Sopha, and her son Nicholas Morris. Although divorced, Dave and Lorraine remained friends, and Dave and Nicholas likewise remained close. He is also survived by his beloved dachshund Frankie.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Lynch and Sons funeral home, 1368 N. Crooks Rd., Clawson, Michigan, 48017, May 2, 2025, from 3 – 7pm. A private gathering will be held in Grawn the following day for the scattering of his ashes.
Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Covell-Traverse City Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
