September 15, 1930 – February 27, 2023
David Crockett White passed away February 27, 2023, at Munson Medical Center, surrounded by his family. He was born in Perdido, Alabama, on September 15, 1930. He graduated class of 1948 from Murphy High School in Mobile, Alabama. David was three when his mother died, and he and his siblings went to live with his oldest sister, Amelia.
David loved sports, especially baseball. In 1945, he played baseball against one of the women's professional baseball league teams. He always smiled when he talked about it. He played pro baseball for two years before enlisting in the Army. He spent more than a year serving in the Korean conflict as a radio and telegraph operator. David was discharged from the Army on January 1, 1953. After his discharge, he married Georgianna Boals in Kewadin, on September 19, 1953.
He is survived by: his daughters, Deborah (Robert) Orschel and Linda (Bill) Coburn; granddaughters, Heather Romano, Kristen (Tony) Thornton, Stephanie Orschel, Dr. Catlin Orschel, MD, Anne (David) Brumbaugh, and Chelsea Coburn; great-grandchildren, Justin Pahl, Tyler and Olivia Romano, Landon and Lexie Thornton, Abigail and Nora Brumbaugh; and his sister, Shirley.
David was preceded in death by: his wife, Georgianna; parents, Crockett David and Marie Elizabeth (Bryars) White; daughter, Mona and her husband John Ferrell; infant granddaughter, Nicole Nemec; sisters, Amelia, Mary Louise, Mona Inez, and Pauline; brothers, Frank, Herman, George, Nolan, Nathan, Victor, and William.
David was a true southern gentleman. He was a wonderful father and grandfather. He will be missed by everyone that loved him.
A Celebration of Life will take place, Saturday, June 3, 2023, at 12:00 PM (noon) at AMVETS Post # 114 in Elk Rapids.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a local veteran's organization of your choice.
Beacon Cremation and Funeral Service, Covell-Elk Rapids Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
