Crawford
May 20, 1953 – November 2, 2025
Dean Hynd Crawford, age 72, of Elk Rapids, Michigan, passed away peacefully on November 2nd, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Dean was born in Flint, Michigan, on May 20th, 1953. Throughout his life, he resided in Flushing, MI, Traverse City, MI, Cincinnati, OH, and then retired in Elk Rapids.
Dean graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Parks and Recreation. He then went on to manage a Jellystone Park Campground for 10 years in Traverse City, MI. He then transitioned to the Jellystone Parks corporate office (Leisure Systems, Inc.) where he worked for 30 years. Dean built not only a respected career but a lifetime of friendships, laughter, and memories. Yogi and Boo Boo will miss him very much!
When he wasn't working, Dean enjoyed being outdoors. His favorite things to do included hunting, canoeing, searching for Petoskey stones, playing cards (Euchre and Cribbage), watching the Spartans, and spending time with family. He loved Northern Michigan, and some of his favorite places were Glen Arbor, the Sleeping Bear Dunes, and Lake Michigan.
Dean is survived by: his wife of 50 years and high school sweetheart, Mary Crawford; brother John (Carol) Crawford; children Jason (Traci) Crawford, Jessica (Kyle) Cochran, and James Crawford; grandchildren Landon Crawford, Charlie and Rylee Cochran, Rocco and Violet Pucci. And many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew (Chief) and Janet (Mum) Crawford, and some very close friends he lost over the years.
Dean will be remembered as a hard-working man with a generous spirit and a sharp sense of humor. He built a legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty that his family and friends will carry forward. His presence will be deeply missed, but the stories, laughs, and memories he leaves behind will continue to bring warmth to those who knew and loved him. He was the life of the party and was known for his favorite saying, "It doesn't get any better than this."
A celebration of Dean's life will take place at a future place and date to be determined.
