Deborah “Debbie” Jayne Hunt, age 68, passed away after a very short stay at the Poppin Hospice House on Saturday, June 13, 2026, with family and friends at her side.
Debbie’s greatest successes in life were measured by relationships. She was always available with a listening ear and instilled in her children that you can achieve anything despite hardships. Debbie was a fighter! Three illnesses and a stroke tried to bring her down and she persevered until the very end.
Debbie was a Collections Specialist and Customer Service Representative for Gerber Products / Nestle in Fremont for 39 years, retiring on April 16, 2021. She thrived in customer service and her family enjoyed the stories she told from her experiences. Debbie had a love for music and played clarinet in the Hesperia high school marching band. She loved to bake, especially with her grandson in his early years. Debbie loved to read and had so many books! She was an avid bird watcher and loved to sit outside by the barn and watch her Percheron draft horses. Being out on the farm in the country was her peaceful place.
Debbie is survived by: her husband, Gary Hunt; her daughter, Sara Byers; and her son, Dan (Amy Mull) Hunt. She also left behind one grandson, Andrew Byers; three sisters, Kelly Gilbert, Michelle (Dana) Redman, and Renae (Tim) Smith; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Rumsey. She had 4 nieces and 5 nephews, many great nieces and nephews, and gained a sweet great niece the day she passed.
Debbie was preceded in death by: her beloved parents, Howard and Betty “Posie” Gilbert; father and mother in-law, Donald and Carol Hunt; and two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Rumsey and Carl “Butch” Hunt.
A Celebration of Life will take place on October 10, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Hunt Chapel in Hesperia.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to the Leila and Cyrus Poppin Hospice House, 2065 E Mt Garfield Rd, Muskegon, MI 49444.
