Mr. Dennis Edwin Hedinger, age 75 of Hart, passed away Saturday November 25, 2017 at home. He was born on November 27, 1941 in St. Anthony, Indiana, the son of Frank and Mary Ann (Bolte) Hedinger. After high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served from 1959 to 1963. He served in Morocco, and at Empire Air Force Station, near Traverse City.

Denny married Sharon Holland of Loogootee, Indiana in 1965. He attended Indiana State University, where he received his Bachelors and Master's Degree in Education. In 1970, he joined the teaching staff at Hart High School, where he taught 26 years as an Industrial Arts teacher and Driver Education Instructor in the summer.

He and his wife Sharon owned the Hallmark store, Cherryland Gifts and Cards in Hart for 20 years. Denny made woodworking gifts for the store and custom orders. After retirement, he worked in construction briefly, but soon decided to return to making handcrafted items. During the business years, he served on various committees to promote the area, but especially enjoyed his time on the National Asparagus Festival Board.

He was a charter member of the Hart Lions Club and had perfect attendance for 38 years. He served in various offices and was awarded Lion of the Year and had received the Melvin Jones Award. He was a member of the Mary Queen of Peace Knights of Columbus Council 2199 in Hart serving many times as the Grand Knight, and the Father Marquette Assembly 2011 Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus in Ludington, where he was a member of the Color Corps. As a military veteran, he was a member of the American Legion Post 234 in Hart and was involved in American Huey 369, a volunteer organization, dedicated to the preservation of Vietnam Era aircraft. Denny was an active member of St. Gregory Catholic Church serving as a woodworker and educator.

Denny is survived by his wife, Sharon of Hart; one son, Wade (Johanna) Hedinger of Strongsville, OH; grandson Devin Hedinger and granddaughter Bethany Hedinger, both of Strongsville, OH; two step grandsons, Herman Strickland and Gary (Morgan) Strickland, both of Brunswick, OH; one step great grandson, Oliver Strickland, also of Brunswick, OH; one sister, Shirley Bische of Indianapolis, IN; one sister in law, Mona Seidel of Washington, IN; several wonderful nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerome; brothers in law, Clarence Bische, Carl Seidel, John and Joe Holland; sister in law, Doris Greenwell; three nieces and one nephew.

The Mass of the Resurrection for Denny will be offered Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 11:00 am from St. Gregory Catholic Church with Father Thomas Bolster presiding. Interment will be in the Hart Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the U.S. Air Force and local veterans. Visitation will be Friday from 2-4 and 6:30-8:30 pm at Beacon Cremation and Funeral Service, the King-Hart Chapel, where the Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm.
