IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donald James
Brandel
October 10, 1937 – August 2, 2018
Donald James Brandel, 80 years, of Whitehall, passed away Thursday, August 2, 2018, surrounded by his family that he deeply loved.
Donald was born in Hart, Michigan on October 10, 1937, to George and Thelma Brandel. He grew up on the family farm until proudly serving his country in the U.S. Air Force. In 1962, he married Linda Bench. They were blessed with four children and 56 years of marriage. Don worked for Sears Roebuck for many years until his 1994 retirement.
An intelligent, deep thinking man, Don was known to host family and friends in his garage 'office'. He always had an extra chair, a listening ear and wisdom to share. He had a great sense of humor, an adventurous spirit and an incredible work ethic. He taught his 4 T's to swim, tie their shoes, use power tools, change their own oil and to live a full life each and every day.
Papa's grandchildren were the light in his big green eyes. Don always had a project he was thinking about or tinkering with and it often involved something interesting for those grandkids – a cooler cart, a new toboggan fix or maybe a potato shooter. He was most happy when his family was all together in the house he built. He passionately loved his family and worked tirelessly until his last breath to take care of his wife, children and grandchildren.
Don taught us all to be honest and fair in dealing with anyone. His moral sense to do the right thing was evident in any conversation (especially around election time). He always said to do it the right way first, buy quality because it will last, don't worry about what others think. This strong loving man will be deeply missed.
Donald is survived by: his wife, Linda; children: Todd, Tracy and Troy (Karen) Brandel, and Tia (Dale) Wilhelm. "Papa"to his Grandchildren: Natasha, Mackenzie, Tyler and Taden Brandel; Allen, Ivabelle and Isaac Wilhelm. He was preceded in death by: his parents; step-father, Elmer Bailey; and 5 siblings.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, White Lake Chapel, 413 S. Mears Avenue, Whitehall. The family will receive guests 1 hour prior to the start of the service.
