Donald C. Katara, 79, of Rapid City, passed away December 26, 2021.  He was born September 16, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, son of Joe and Dorothy (Baker) Katara.

Don graduated from Riverside High School in Chicago, in 1960, and then was employed by the LaGrange Post Office, where he became Postmaster, and eventually retired.

In the late 1990s, he bought a home in Rapid City, near the family's home on the lake where he spent a great deal of time growing up.  He loved to go fishing and enjoyed watching football.

He is survived by: his daughter, Rhonda Welsh, of Joliet, Illinois; two grandchildren, Raymond and Randy Welsh; and sister, Marla Wright.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cathy; and grandson, Tyler Seydlitz.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
