Obituary

Mr. Donald Weir, age 97, of Ludington, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2016, at Ludington Woods in Ludington. He was born September 27, 1918, in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He was employed with the C & O Railroad and worked on the car ferries for 35 years. Donald was a highly self-taught man in many subjects. He was trained as a classical painting artist. His works included works of art known as The Laborers Painting, which was completed for the US Merchant Marines, of which Don proudly served during the World War II era. This painting still is displayed in the Ludington Public Library. Another work entitled Birds Eye View of Ludington Harbor is displayed in the Grand Restaurant in Ludington. Donald loved to travel the world and had taken Alice to France on one of their travels.

Donald is survived by his nephew, William (Michelle) Covell of Kalamazoo, MI; two nieces, Stephanie (fiancee Timothy Taylor) Lewis of Delton, MI, Susy Whitt of Franklin, MI; one great nephew of Kalamazoo, MI; one sister, Janet White of Cincinnati, OH. He is also survived by his brother in law, David Holcomb of Portage, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Alice Weir; sister Alice Holcomb.

In accordance with Don's wishes, their will not be a formal service. Interment will be made in Lakeview Cemetery.
