Obituary

Mrs. Doris Ann Van Bergen, age 94, of Hart, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 30, 2017, at Oakview Medical Care Facility in Ludington.  Doris was born September 25, 1922 in Weare to Charles and Frances VanderHauwart Nutenbaum. She married Albert Francis Van Bergen on December 4, 1943 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Weare. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Albert in February 2010, son Richard in December 2010, and her only sibling, Beatrice Louise Munson in 1999. Doris was devoted to her family, and spent much of her time raising 12 children. Doris was a career homemaker and farmwife, but also spent a few years teaching at a one-room schoolhouse named Cleveland School.  She was extremely proud of her family and demonstrated her love for them on a daily basis.  Doris was an avid fisherman on the family river property. She was a talented painter, played piano and accordion, square danced with the Melody Mates, created special quilts for family members, cooking and canning, collecting antiques, and Doris loved her faith.  Doris is survived by her eleven children, 18 grandchildren, and 15 (soon to be 16) great-grandchildren.  Tom (Harriet Shafer) of Scottville, Jackie of Marlette, Don (Jean Davis) of Muskegon, Anne Hardy of Pentwater, Michael (Kathy) of Hart, Jim (Julie) of North Muskegon, Linda (Mark) Seyfred of Franklin, TN, Gerald (Caprice Gray) of Hart, Nancy Olds (Joseph Przekop) of Whitehall, Denny (Renee) of Ephrata, WA, and Chuck (Toni) of Whitehall.The surviving grandchildren are Andrew & Mindy, Josh & Eunice (Gideon, Jackson, and Madeline), Troy Hardy & Melissa (Sophia, Fiona, and Liliana), Carrie Roberts & Jim (Brianne and Storm) Eric & Christine (Chase and Carter), Steven (Kayla Penokie), James (Kimmie Wyatt), Noah (Michelle Backus), Simon, Jonathan (Sarah) Seyfred (Grayson, Isabella, Ellison, w/ new brother in June), Anna (Eric) Graham (Sadie), Nick Olds, Jackie Olds, Rebecca (Cameron), Rachel, David, Ryan, Tyler & Ashley.Doris wrote a personal will in May of 2001 in which she stated, "[my] private Memorial Mass to be a Mass of Thanksgiving.  We have so much to be thankful for.  With my love, Mom".
