Mrs. Doris May Henrickson of Ludington went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, February 17, 2014, after a long journey with Alzheimer's disease. She was 92 years of age. Doris was born December 20, 1921, to Edward and Laura (Torrey) Kaber in Norton Township, known now as North Muskegon. She was very proud of her graduation with the Class of 1941 at Shelby High School.
On December 26, 1941, she married Andrew L. Henrickson at New Era Reformed Church. Together they had four children, Karen Henrickson of Ludington, Ronald (Bethalie) Henrickson of Ludington, Pamela (Andrew) Denick of Merritt Island, Florida, and LuAnne (Dennis) Winiecke of Ludington; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
Doris was predeceased by her husband, Andrew, on July 8, 1991; her parents, Edward and Laura Kaber; her brothers Raymond, Wilson, Mike, and Jack; and her sister, Phyllis. Surviving are two sisters, Laurine (Charles) Michael of Marne and Marilyn Towne of Hart.
Doris was very active in her church. She served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deaconess, and Youth Sponsor for many years. She was an active member of the Women's Missionary Society. A proud accomplishment for her was reading the Bible cover to cover more than once. Doris loved cooking, baking, and sewing for her family. She was an accomplished seamstress. As a seamstress, she sewed all the robes for the Junior Choir for the church. Doris was never far away from her Singer Sewing Machine. She could make anything out of a scrap of material. Lindsay's Furniture and Lundquist Furniture for several years donated upholstery fabric for Doris's mission project. She was lovingly known as "The Bag Lady". She made bags from the fabric and donated them to children in various orphanages in several countries, including Mexico, Africa, and Haiti. Over the years she donated in excess of 2000 bags.
The family extends a special thank you to the loving staff at Sutter Living Center-Oakview Medical Care Facility.
