Doris (Sue) Lorraine Struble, 94, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 20, 2021, five days shy of her 95th birthday.
She was born on August 26, 1926, in Elk Rapids, to Clarence and Margaret (Southbird) Russell. She married the late Raymond (Doc) Struble on July 3, 1953, in Traverse City. Together they raised two daughters and one son.
Doris worked at the Traverse City State Hospital, then Setwell Industries, and Burke Flexo Lures before going to help her brother, William Russell, at Nish-Nah-Bee Industries for over 20 years.
Doris was a proud member of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians and participated in most of the social events held by the Elders Program of the Tribe. She was an avid euchre player and participated in most tournaments to the ire of her competitors. She also loved playing bingo until her failing eyesight made it too difficult. She was also a member of the East Side Girls Club that met for lunch every Friday after the Cherry Festival. Doris enjoyed trips to the casino and spending time with family and friends. She was a wealth of knowledge regarding the history of businesses and families in Traverse City during her lifetime. She was an excellent bowler and spent many years traveling the state and country to participate in tournaments. She was rarely seen without pink rollers in her hair to the amusement of family and friends.
She will be missed by her family: daughters, Cheryl (Doug) Weathers and Jane (Joe) Rohl both of Traverse City; grandchildren, Marnie (Jerry) Warren, Benjamin (Adam Webster) Peek, William (Brandi Bashor) Demo, Lynne-Ann (Matt Bloom) Demo, Jon (Holly Gribble) Demo, Samantha (Johnny) Dadson, Dakota (Andrew Elsenheimer) Lane, Kelly Anne (Cory) Carlton, Kristofer Weathers, Dodd (Ann) Russell, and Jennifer (Richard) Cochrun; 12 great-grandchildren; and five great great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Doris was preceeded in death by her husband Raymond; son, Jon S. Struble; and 11 siblings.
At her request, a private service will be held and Doris will be laid to rest next to her husband and son.
