Obituary

Dorothy F. Johnson, 94, of Elk Rapids, passed away Saturday, July 17, 2021, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.  Dorothy was born on September 7, 1926 to Floyd and Wilhelmina (Schmidt) Snyder.  On June 17, 1946, in Detroit, she married Robert M. Johnson.

Dorothy made her home in Elk Rapids where she was an active member of the Elk Rapids Baptist Church for over 50 years.  She enjoyed teaching Sunday school, reading, gardening, and spending time with family.

Dorothy will be greatly missed by her children, Joanne Johnson and Curt Johnson; grandson Robert Avery; granddaughters Kia Avery and Gwendolyn Johnson; great-grandsons Ethan, Ty and Gage Avery; great-granddaughter Shae Avery-Miller; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Wilhelmina (Schmidt) Snyder; husband Robert M. Johnson; granddaughter Anne Avery; great-grandson Samuel Avery; brothers, Roy, Clifford, Kenneth and James Snyder; and sister, Lillian (Snyder) Kline.
A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, August 9, 2021, 11:00 AM, at the Elk Rapids Baptist Church. Her ashes will be interred immediately following at Maple Grove Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Elk Rapids Baptist Church.
Beacon Cremation and Funeral Service, Covell-Elk Rapids Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
