Mr. Douglas Evan Pider, age 75, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, of Hart, passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Wednesday, June 19, 2013. He was born November 19, 1937, in Hart to Evan and Kathryn (Grate) Pider. Mr. Pider received his Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Science from Michigan State University in 1959. He married Gladys Coon on January 26, 1962, in Pentwater, and they celebrated 51 years of marriage before his passing. Mr. Pider was an agricultural salesman, farmer and Christmas tree grower. He served on the board of directors of the Michigan Christmas Tree Association and as past president of the organization. In 2010 Doug was named to the Michigan Christmas Tree Grower Hall of Fame. He was an active member of the Hart Congregational United Church of Christ. He also was past president of the Hart Jaycees. In his spare time, Doug enjoyed fishing, picnics with his family, and touring the back roads of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. He was an avid fan of the MSU Spartans.
Douglas is survived by his wife, Gladys "Liz" Pider; two daughters, Katherine (William) Adams and Sharon Pider, all of Hart; three sons, Doug (Michelle) Pider II and Dan (Colleen) Pider, all of Hart, and Dennis (Amy) Pider of Ludington; eight grandchildren, Joe Sallgren, Justin Adams, Janessa Pider, Douglas Pider III, Mercedes Williamson, Jaden Pider, Cassidy Pider, and Delaney Pider; two great-granddaughters, Riley Andrew and Staley Jo Sallgren; one sister, Mary (Louis) Burdick of Orefield, Pennsylvania; and one brother, Larry (Candy) Pider of Whitehall. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Valora Pider.
The Funeral Service for Mr. Pider will be Saturday, June 22, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Hart Congregational United Church Of Christ with Pastor Lorraine Boucon officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at King Funeral Home. The family requests that any memorials be directed to Hart Congregational United Church of Christ, 408 South State Street, Hart, MI 49420 or the Oceana County Medical Care Facility, 701 East Main Street, Hart, MI 49420.
