Eddie "Jake" Russell, 89 of East Jordan, MI, passed away peacefully at his home, with his son and friend Bear by his side on June 16, 2021.

Jake was the son of clarence and Margaret (Southbird) Russell.  He was born on March 9, 1932, in Elk Rapids, MI.  On August 10, 1957, Jake married his wife of 54 years, Clarann Sams.  Together they had five children.

Jake was a proud member of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians.  He was instrumental in fighting and gaining per capita for all members.  He was a hard worker and held several jobs in the area, and he is a retired truck driver.

He enjoyed to traveling, watching sports and gambling.  He had a passion for working on cars and he could build almost anything.  We will miss his sense of humor, his teasing, and extraordinary gift of gab.

Preceding Eddie in death are: his parents; his wife, Claraan, sons, Mark and Raymond; daughter, Pamela; and Siblings, Ivan, Mary, Myrtle, Isaac, Carl, Nettie and William.

Surviving are his children, Rebecca (Tom) Kalush, David (Billido) Russell, and Bryon (Brenna) Russell;  Eleven grandchildren, Jamie, Patrick (Ashley), Joshua, Jacob, Raymond, Amber, Tawnee, Sherice, Kristy, David (Samantha) Marcus (Andrea); and his furbaby, Bear.  Also surviving are: several great grandchildren, sister,  Doris; Sister in law, Patricia Sams; brother in law, Francis (Sharon) Sams; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am Friday, June 18, 2021, at Beacon Cremation and Funeral Service, Covell-Elk Rapids Chapel.  Interment will follow in Yuba Cemetery in Acme.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of services at the funeral home.

The family would like to take the time to thank Stella Chippewa, Monica Anderson and the staff at GTB for the wonderful care of their parents.
