IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Edith Bliss
Stubbs
May 26, 1937 – March 22, 2024
Edith Bliss Stubbs, 86, of Whitehall, Michigan, (formerly of Peoria, Illinois) passed away on Friday, March 22, 2024. She was born May 26, 1937, in Sandusky, Ohio, to the late Richard and Helen (Calvert) Bliss. Edith was known to her loved ones as "Edie", and leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Edie pursued her education at Peoria High School, graduating in 1955. She later went on to earn a master's degree with distinction from Bradley University, also in Peoria, Illinois.
Edie was a beloved teacher for District 150 schools in Peoria, Illinois, for over 30 years. In her career she found immense fulfillment, and dedicated herself to positively impact her students' lives. She brought her passion, intelligence, and love to her classroom, all while serving her family, friends, and community through her volunteerism and political activism.
In her free time, Edie enjoyed a good stiff vodka tonic, great food and music, all while being surrounded by her loved ones. She had a fondness for raunchy jokes, enjoyed swearing frequently, and she was always up for an adventure. She found joy in grabbing a couple chili dogs from the White Duck Market, going for a drive along the water, enjoying the sound of the waves, and the beauty of nature. She often expressed her purpose in life was to make a difference and to matter.
Edie is survived by: her loving daughters, Betsy Stubbs and Mike Ice of Peoria, Illinois, and Karen (Stubbs) Linsley and Dwight Linsley of Whitehall, Michigan; adored grandson, Anthony Stubbs and his fiancé Savannah Oakford of Peoria, Illinois; cherished niece, Jennifer Aldred Masek and Pam Masek of Elmhurst, Illinois, and their daughters, Olivia Aldred Berry, Julie (Bliss) Blueskies, and Stephen Bliss.
She was preceded in death by her younger sister, Florence "Betsy" (Bliss) Aldred, and her younger brother, C. Bradley Bliss.
As an atheist, Edie wanted no religious or memorial service. Instead she requested that her friends and family celebrate her life with a party filled with happy memories. Any contributions can be made to Planned Parenthood, or a local women's shelter.
Edie will be deeply missed by all who loved her, but her spirit and impact will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, White Lake Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
