Mrs. Edmere E. "Eddie" Varenhorst, age 81 of Hart, died Saturday, October 25, 2008. She was born in Muskegon on August 18, 1927 to Frank and Delia (Christian) Gilles. She married John Varenhorst Jr. on September 20, 1947 at St. Gregory's Catholic Church and he preceded her in death on June 30, 2000. Eddie was a cook at St. Gregory's School, retiring in 1967. She also cooked at the East Main Pub and was a clerk at C and C Ferris Grocery and Bray's Variety Store. She loved her family, cooking and was a fond lover of dogs. Eddie is survived by her son, John Varenhorst III of Hart; her twin daughters, Marguerite (Gary) Engfer of Ludington and Marlene Chiesa of Ludington; 5 grandchildren, Gerrett, Karl, Katrina, Nicole and Stacey; 2 great grandsons, Dylan and Brian; her brothers and sisters, Frances Culp of Wisconsin, Patsy (Chester) Zarczany of Wisconsin, Maryann Talack of Minnesota, Joseph (Jackie) Gillis of Illinois; sister and brother in laws, Agnes Varenhorst of Ludington, Jim (Mary) Varenhorst of Grand Rapids and Emme Field of California; numerous nieces and nephews; and her extended family at the Oceana County Medical Care Facility. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Gordon Gillis; sister, Arlene Gillis; her parents; nephew, Steven Gilles; brother and sister in laws, Vic (Gini) Varenhorst, Richard Culp and Robert Field. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday, October 31, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. from the St. Joseph Catholic Church-Weare. Interment in the Hart Cemetery. A Gathering for family and friends will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to Oceana County Medical Care Facility or Harbor Hospice.
