Obituary

Edward Thomas Breitmeyer, passed away Friday, July 18, 2025, on his farm in Buckley, Michigan, at the age of 76.  He was born in Northville, Michigan, to Edward Jacob and Eleanore (Straehle) Breitmeyer.  The first 9 years of his life were on a truck farm in Livonia, Michigan.  His family then moved to farm in Unionville, Michigan, and upon graduation from college, he moved to Buckley.

He graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor of Arts in Education.  He married his soulmate, Brenda Weber, and had 53 wonderful years together.  They both enjoyed the farm life and working theirs together.

Their sons Aaron E. (Dena) and James K. (Krista) Breitmeyer survive, along with much loved grandchildren: Allyson, Preston (Grandpa's hunting buddy), Kayleigh, Ashtyn, Braelin, and Caisys.  Also surviving are: sister, Joann (Gene) Roller; brothers-in-law, Marvin (Theresa) Weber and Randy (Shawn) Weber; with many loved nieces and nephews.

Ed taught math, social studies, and geography at Kingsley Area Schools for 30 years before retiring in 2002.  Upon retiring, he and Brenda worked their farm happily together.

Ed enjoyed his students and coaching AA baseball summers while his sons were growing up.  He was a true believer in service which led him to be on the Board of Directors of the Grand Traverse Conservation District for 15 years.  Ed and Brenda were charter members of Redeemer Lutheran Church of Interlochen where Ed helped turn over the first shovel full of dirt beginning its construction.  He served God on many of its boards and as head elder.

In Grant Township, he was on the Planning Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals.  He was on the BOD of the Corn Marketing Program of Michigan for 6 years, the BOD of the Michigan Corn Growers Association for 11 years, and as a member of the US Grains Council for 11 years.  He was presently serving on the board of the Farm Service Agency.

He loved his wife, family, farming, hunting, and the Lord.  "I always figured I had the best of both worlds: working with the kids at school and being able to farm!"

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Redeemer Lutheran Church of Interlochen, with visitation beginning at 9:00 AM.  A luncheon will be held at the church and interment will follow in Grant Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Redeemer Lutheran Church of Interlochen.

Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Covell-Kingsley Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
